July 31, 202310 Tips to Dehumidify and Cool Your Home During Summer Months
Summer means a lot of things for so many of us here in Northeast Ohio. Our days are filled with trips to the park, yard work, vacation, pool time, and many more activities. After these hot days in the sun, we at Viccarone HVAC know that we all want a home that feels cool in every room.
That’s why we hope to help you today with 10 simple tips to help dehumidify your home and keep your home cool all day long.
- Run a Portable Dehumidifier – This will go a long way in assisting your central AC. Just make sure to empty your dehumidifier’s drain pan regularly or utilize a continuous drain hose.
- Turn Fan onto “Always On” – Running your HVAC system on the setting of “Always On” or “On Continuous Run” will continue to pull air from rooms into the return duct system and circulate cooler air throughout the home. It will also pass that air flow across the inside condenser coil in the system, even when the AC is not running.
- Close Off Bypass Pipe – If you have an inline humidifier you use during winter months, remember to close off the bypass pipe now that summer is here.
- Close Basement Registers – Close registers in your basement so that you are forcing cooler air to other levels of the home.
- Keep Blinds Closed – As much as possible, keep window blinds closed to reduce heat from the sun!
- Close Garage Doors – Open garage doors (especially those under livings areas) can really warm up your house and make it hard for your AC unit to keep up. Close those garage doors when possible to keep your house cool.
- Close Man Doors and Sliding Doors- While many like to leave sliding screen doors open, closing these doors can go a long way to keep cold air in your house.
- Cool Off Your Car Engine – During hot summer days, wait until your car engine is cooled off before pulling it into your attached garage.
- Clear Your Outdoor AC Unit – While you’re outside, take a look at your outdoor unit to see if it’s covered in grass, leaves, or any other debris. Clearing your unit will increase air floor and extend the life of your equipment.
- Clean Your Outdoor AC Unit – After you’ve cleared the debris off of your outdoor unit, it’s always a good idea to use a hose and clean off the fin coil area to remove dirt, pollen, mulch, dust, etc.
